Ohaga Ohaga Mentorship Programme 

Ohaga Ohaga Mentorship Programme is an initiative aimed at mentoring the young generation to become better versions of themselves, personally, professionally and career wise.

The opportunity is for mentees to learn from seasoned industry players, and experienced Practioners so as to acquire new skills, build networks, share knowledge and experiences and network with fellow mentees and mentors in the program. 

Additionally, the program helps mentees grow professionally and personally, develop leadership and/or skill sets, create and maintain professional networks, foster a community of learning within the program, reinforce learning, and promote growth via the sharing of information and abilities.

Mentorship is offered in different areas specifically for young and upcoming writers and journalists in colleges and universities or those who have graduated and are trying to find their place in the industry. 

These areas include: 

  • TV production (Camera work, presenting, production, Scripting, Shooting)
  • Radio Production (Newsgathering, Presenting, Production, Scripting, Announcing, Podcasting).
  • Photography (Portrait, Landscape, Wildlife, Architectural, Medical)
  • Editing (Articles, Opinion pieces, Print materials
  • Authorship and publishing (Book Writing, Editing, Publishing)
  • Academic writing (Journal Abstracts, Journal articles, Research papers

Mentees are encouraged to adopt a culture of: 

 Journaling, reading books, cooking, crocheting, learning a new language, creating scripts, photography, podcasting, and writing abstracts and articles for journals, videography, writing creatively including opinion pieces, how-to articles, newspaper and magazine articles, and service articles.

Mentees are also encouraged to learn new skills away from what they have studied or studying as part of mentorship. E.g., if you’re interested in radio broadcasting, one is encouraged to try video production or photography, or writing or coding, graphic design, motivational speaking, playing an instrument, engaging in sporting activities etc.

Mentorship Objectives

  • To inspire upcoming and the next generation of journalists, writers, and communicators.
  • To transfer knowledge acquired through extensive learned skills, and experience to the next crop of journalists, writers and communicators

How to be a member of the mentorship program

  • Show willingness to be part of the program.
  • Agree to undergo thorough vetting before acceptance into the program. 
  • Fill up a mentorship application form.
  • Write a short (500 words) personal statement about you and why you should be in the program. 
  • Submit the application forms.
  • If successful, the potential mentees are inducted into the program.
